Challenge
A prominent commercial building with elevated presentation expectations was experiencing challenges maintaining cleanliness across key high traffic areas. Spaces such as washrooms and canteen flooring required a disproportionate cleaning effort, while the building’s entrance areas demanded consistently high visual standards. Compounding the problem was an unexpected labour drain caused by moss growth on the outdoor entrance paving. These factors drew staff away from other responsibilities and impacted service levels across the wider site.
"It became clear that the effort needed to maintain our washrooms and canteen areas was putting pressure on the rest of the team. We needed a way to reduce labour without letting standards slip."
Operatives Team Manager
Two core issues were identified:
- Labour Strain: Time intensive areas were consuming excessive labour resources. This made deep cleans costly and prevented staff from maintaining day to day routines across the full site.
- Surface Wear and Inconsistent Standards: Despite high cleaning effort, persistent staining on porous materials remained an issue. Washroom standards were slipping and required repeated deep cleans to recover. Regular use of harsh chemicals was contributing to surface damage, reducing aesthetic quality and asset longevity.
Solution
Nordic Chem began with a full site assessment to identify surfaces with the highest labour and cost impact. The operative team received in person training, followed by supervised application of Nordic Chem 2.0 across the most labour intensive areas.
Targeted zones included:
• Washrooms
• Canteen flooring
• Outdoor entrance paving
• Entrance areas, including glazing, textile furniture, flooring, turnstiles, and reception

The goal was to reduce labour input on these demanding zones to free up staff capacity that had been diverted from other areas. This allowed for improved team efficiency, greater surface resilience, and increased client satisfaction.
Results
The results were immediate and measurable:
• 5,449 labour hours saved annually
• 116% increase in productivity (sqm cleaned/hour)
• £33,805 in total annual savings, including product and application costs
• Moss build up on outdoor paving significantly reduced, with minimal to no regrowth following application
“We were genuinely surprised how much better the surfaces looked and how long they stayed that way. The labour we freed up to use elsewhere was more than we expected.”

Ongoing benefits include fewer deep cleans, improved surface durability, better staff allocation, and increased client satisfaction. The coating acts as a protective barrier, helping assets last longer while enabling staff to deliver higher standards with less effort.
